Snow festival

To color and animate the long winter months, the habitants of Hokkaido have invented the Snow and Ice Festival. For six weeks the Japanese army and a number of artists come from all over Japan and other countries, to take the time to sculpture snowflakes!

They find themselves in the middle of tons of fresh snow which they form into extravagant and spectacular sculptures. With fantasy and skill, they create an abundant array of frozen art pieces.

Every February in Sapporo, the festival lasts 7 days. The village becomes fairy like, particularly at night when colored lights illuminate and reflect on the majestic creations.

Giant sculptures, ice palaces, and real sized buildings, all made of snow and ice; transform the village into an illuminated fantasy like out of a story book.
