Jigokudani

In the Japanese mountains, lives the only race of monkeys known for their ability to adapt to harsh winter climates. With their typical red face, the Japanses macaque monkeys live the furthest north of any of their fellow primates.

It is in the Jigokundani region, which is covered by snow for more than 4 months of the year, where one can enjoy closely observing these amazing creatures.

The macaques live in groups, dominated by one male and many females. They live respecting a certain hierarchy. Their reciprocal cleaning habits are an important part of their family life and at the same time provides protein for their diet.

Once winter arrives, their already red faces become even redder which announces their sexual availability.
